The studies gathered in this volume reveal the importance of analysing the process of borrowing-allusion-quotation in order to interpret the poetic and musical texts of the Ars Nova, and to fully understand their weight and function within the cultural system of late-medieval Europe. With methodological breadth, the eight contributions offer insights on various kinds of intertextual phenomena involving different repertoires of medieval music, from Catalan danses to French fifteenth-century lyrics for Easter, from the Florentine repertoire of the Trecento to the musical tradition of Visconti Pavia. Musicologists, literary scholars and musicians of historical performance practice will find in the volume new research on the works by composers such as Jacopo da Bologna, Giovanni da Cascia, Nicolò del Preposto (da Perugia), Francesco degli Organi (Landini), Johannes Ciconia, Filippotto da Caserta, and many others.
